Transcript
Introduction
This video provides information and tells a story about a man named Iain. It shows how he took in his grandchildren as his own and wanted to live a healthier and longer life through Manulife Vitality for him to be able to be there for them and set a good example in terms of health.
On screen
On a white background, the Manulife logo appears.

As a new scene fades in and the camera pans to the right through various photos, inspirational music begins to play. A white text that reads, “We all have a unique story” appears, and another immediately follows that reads, “And our stories can impact our health.”
On screen
A white background fades in along with a green on-screen text that reads, “Manulife recognizes this and wants to help Canadians live healthier for longer.” Another text immediately follows that reads, “We spoke to people about their lives to understand how their habits can unknowingly impact their health.”

Cut to a scene where a white text appears that reads, “This is Iain’s real story.” A man named “Iain” walks into a room filled with photos of important moments in his life. Iain looks around with a smile on his face and wipes off tears from his eyes while he looks at a portrait of himself with his daughter.
Iain: She was on the street for ten years. She’s my third child, second daughter. She’s the one that I’m raising her daughter.

Cut to a medium shot of Iain sitting in a room with huge windows at his back and portraits on the wall at his side while he is speaking. The scene alternates between a medium shot and a close-up shot of Iain.
Iain: I was married young. I had four kids, three girls and one boy. One of my daughters was deaf and she later on started struggling with some addiction issues and whatnot. And she ended up having a baby…

Cut to a scene where the camera pans down through photos of significant moments in Iain’s life, while he continues to speak over the screen.
VO
Iain: that she couldn’t care for. So, my wife I have now and I took the baby in, from day one.

Cut to a close-up of Iain sitting in a room with huge windows and a plant at his back while he is speaking.
Iain: The dad had passed away and so now she has a little sister that’s a half-sister. Not the same mom but the same dad and so she came to live with us when she was four years old as well.

Cut to a scene where the camera pans up through a photo of two young girls, each holding a balloon, while Iain continues to speak over the screen.
VO
Iain: So now I have two grandchildren that were more like our children, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Iain: It would be nice if it didn’t happen, I guess. But…

Iain: I can’t explain the joy that I get from it. They always say that having them around…

Iain: keeps you young. But that’s not true. When your knees don’t bend as well, and you have to sit down for a tea party for hours on end.

Cut to a scene where the camera is focusing on a photo of Iain and his granddaughter, then pans up to a photo of Iain and his grandchildren, while Iain continues to speak over the screen.
VO
Iain: Oh my goodness… The heart attack that I had…

Iain: I didn’t know until two days later. It wasn’t pain, it was a different feeling. I was going to work that night and the doctor said, “Well, you know, you’ve had a heart attack so we’re booking you for surgery right now." And I’m like, “Come on, you’re just joking.” And then I started to be more concerned about my health and being around for my girls than I was about being concerned by work anymore.

Cut to a scene where the camera is focusing on a photo of Iain posing on his motorcycle. And then, cut to the next where Iain is looking through the photos on the wall, while he continues to speak over the screen.
VO
Iain: It’s really important to me that I be healthy and be around for my girls. Because…

Iain: they’ve been dealt a raw deal. It’s not fair that they have to have these two old parents.

Iain: I want to see them through high school. I’d love to see them at their weddings. I want to see them to be independent.

Iain: I’d like to be a good example to them, health-wise.

Iain: I guess it’s not as bad as I was expecting.

Iain: The heart attack is obviously going to weigh into that and… Yes, physically I just don’t feel as fit as I should be at 61.

Iain: I would be very interested in a program like that, yes. I would love to get that number down, so I could keep up with them. It’s just if I could figure out how to get it going, that would be the best. Are we going to come back and do this next year? Maybe I can get it down?
