Personalized Medicine is our new program focused on helping your employees live healthier lives sooner.
What’s this new program about?
This new program combines convenient access to advanced pharmacogenetic testing and pharmacist assistance to help your employees find more effective medication. Finding an effective medication can be a trial-and-error process. This process can take time and sometimes involves side effects. By helping identify more effective medications for patients earlier on, Personalized Medicine can help reduce this trial-and-error period.
Personalized Medicine is offered as an add-on to your Extended Health Care benefits. The pharmacogenetic tests services are provided by Personalized Prescribing Inc. (PPI), a Canadian company.
Who is it for?
Personalized Medicine helps people who are taking or just starting a medication for:
- mental health conditions, such as depression or anxiety
- chronic pain
- attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- neurological conditions
The program is available to plan members and any covered family members.
What makes it innovative?
Our program deploys two levels of genetic testing. This allows for more in-depth analysis of what medication may be safe and effective for members. In addition, each patient is assigned a pharmacist who will prepare a report and help them understand the results. Pharmacists are also available to talk to doctors about a medication change. If a patient’s doctor deems a medication change to be appropriate, a pharmacist will follow up with the patient to ensure they’re responding to the change as expected.
